I suppose 2021 is not done with me yet

Right as I was leaving for my dental work, I realized the hall toilet was spewing water and had been for some time, enough time that the carpet in the adjoining bedroom was soaked. Fortunately, the leak stopped when I turned off the water at the toilet, and then I just had to leave it all and go to the dentist.
Where I cried for the next 2.5 hours but for totally novel reasons. And then shivered uncontrollably when all the adrenaline wore off. Let me tell you what. I have found the trick to not giving a shit about the dentist, and it is having a flood at your house when you are all by yourself. LOL And then they wanted me to pay them $600, and I was all, we did not discuss me paying you $600 upfront before you bill my insurance OMG, so I paid them $200 while crying about it.
Fortunately I have amazing friends, and one came over while I was at the dentist and got to working on the toilet and another friend gave me a tiny shop vac and then the former friend got a bigger one and amongst us all we got it as sorted as it is going to be for the day.
Toilet appears to be fixed (checked by actual plumbed). No belonging were destroyed (and Emma's laptop and headphones and some other belongings were on the floor so near miss), thank god. Damage confined to one room. I was here and caught it before it got worse. Lots to be grateful for.
Josh and Friend One will rip up the carpet tomorrow, and then we'll see about replacing the flooring. No help from insurance as we don't have the particular rider that will cover this, but that's okay. It's just money and inconvenience. Nothing of value was lost.
But today sucked hard. :(

Date: 2021-12-28 07:16 pm (UTC)What an awful day! (I can't believe the dentist was going to charge you up front for so much before billing insurance!) I'm glad you got the leak as sorted as you can, and that nothing was ruined.
*hugs*
