how is this week almost over?

1. I got a package of clothes from
executrix! And I had very successful shopping trip (even shoes!) so I am all set for back to school! <3 <3
2. Fiona's hair is so cute. Her little blue ombre at the bottom of her bob is just adorable. Hair-dorable, even.
3. I have purchased a pedometer. It does nothing but pedominate,no phone or internet connection required. I always lusted after fitness watches only to discover they weren't compatible with my phone. As the salesperson said to me derisively, "You want this one? This is a phone for a child." My child's phone came with the Samsung Health app which was fine except of course it only counted the steps taken while holding the phone. About a year ago, it started asking me to connect my phone number or something like that, and I just refused, so it wouldn't let me open the app, but I could still see my step count in the notification bar. Which, fine. That's all I ever really used it for anyway. This app would ask me like three times a day to agree to the new terms, and I would refuse every single time. Well, on my clothes shopping trip, I went to check how many steps we'd walked, and there was no step count in the notification bar. The app had deleted itself! I had actually tried to delete the app when I first got the phone, and it was one of those I couldn't delete. I have been rejected by a proprietary app! So, I got this pedometer for 25 bucks and it is awesome and doing its job in motivating me to be more physically active.
4. The girls just watched Centaurworld on Netflix which is an extremely silly cartoon with lots of singing that also turns out to have one of the best twists I've ever seen in any show. Wow. Highly recommend.
5.
Let Us Believe in the Beginning of the Cold Season: Selected Poems by Forough Farrokhzad
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Absolutely fantastic. Farrokhzad writes explicitly about sex and desire and adultery in a time and culture in which that is verboten, and she does so using religious imagery and metaphors which make doing so doubly verboten (see "Border Walls" for a good example of her doing this). In addition to "Border Walls," I think "I Pity the Garden" is my other favorite poem from the collection.

Turtle Pictures by Ray Gonzalez
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
I did not like this book at all. It's full of lines like this one: "it was imagination forested in a cup of onions crying to sing." I found it largely incomprehensible except for some interspersed prose pieces and a section about illegal immigration across the Rio Grande. That section is powerful and affecting (and comprehensible!) and alas only about four pages or so long.

I only use the step-counter on mine, too. Well, except for how I haven't been trusting this one, lol! Aside from that. Which is why I got the cheaper fitness trackers both times. (VeryFitPro) It's about $35. And comes in purple, which was the main selling point, hahaha, joking (not joking).

Date: 2022-07-29 10:52 am (UTC)Exec sent me some wonderful jackets and cozy tops for winter, highlight being a very cozy red sweater that I can't even contemplate wearing at this moment but which I know is going to be lovely when it's cold again. LOL

Date: 2022-07-29 11:12 am (UTC)I actually went a little OTT ordering things from my 2 favorite brands over lockdown; this week I have been selling on FB "Buy Sell Trade" groups specific to each brand. I've been doing very well, but it's also brought home to me exactly how far off the rails I went.

Date: 2022-07-29 09:35 pm (UTC)Hey, I did the same thing but with notebooks in pens which I needed more of like I needed a hole in the head. Regret nothing!
I'm glad you're having luck selling what you no longer need.
Let me see if I can guess your brands. One is Eileen Fisher, right?

Date: 2022-07-28 08:28 pm (UTC)I keep saying I need to read more poetry. Your reviews are always so interesting to read! That one sentence, man, I feel like I could teach that in a "how not to" class.

Date: 2022-07-29 09:30 pm (UTC)The author of that book is a big deal poet; the book won a prize. I don't know if I'm just too stupid to get it (and I do think that ignorance is part of it; he's clearly elaborating on mythology from his Mexican ancestry in ways that I'm not getting). But also, I don't think it's entirely me being too stupid. IDK. I do not like it. At all. LOL

i hate shopping for clothes. shoes even more so. i'm a woman with size 9, wide feet with a high instep. so, finding something that i like and fits well is a PITA.
