OMG! I just finished mainlining season one of Veronica Mars and I am speechless. Completely speechless. An almost flawless 22 episodes of television. I mean, so good I had to change the subtitle on my journal. I am mostly unspoiled for season two, so don't give me a headsup unless it's to tell me that Weevil and Logan totally get it on in detention cause, wow. They should. So, rec me some Veronica Mars fanfic, please! Het, slash, gen, all donations accepted. I know you guys know where the good stuff is.

A couple M*A*S*H recs to get us started off:

Letters Home by [livejournal.com profile] likethesun2 Hawkeye/Charles Winchester PG-13ish. You know how you had NO IDEA you wanted to read something? Sorta thought maybe if you did it'd be ridiculous or else a wee bit squicky? And then you read and you realize it was the very thing you'd been wanting all along? This fic is a lot like that. It's the Hawkeye we see more and more toward the end of the series, the one who's fragile and emotionally damaged, and the Winchester voice is spot on. Hawkeye stands in the gloom at the door of the Swamp, peering in. There isn’t that much different in him, Charles thinks, at least not when you look at him head-on. It’s when he doesn’t realize that he’s under scrutiny—there, as he throws a glance back over his shoulder, obliquely—that you see a faint flash. The white of the eyes, the twitch of the lips. It’s when he turns away that you see how he’s going away, and away, and away.

The Third Incurable Affliction by likethesun Hawkeye/BJ PG-13ish This is told from BJ's POV and mainly concerns his first experience in the OR.

Every Reason by [livejournal.com profile] garnettrees Hawkeye/BJ PG-13ish I think this is really lovely. Very sad. Very wistful. There's two narratives going on at once; a future perspective woven in with the events of the past that's done very well and makes for a very heart hurty piece.

SPN

there's gotta be a punchline in here somewhere by [livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing Sam/Dean Adult I really like fics where the boys switch bodies and that switch leads to really, really hot sex.

Battering Ram by [livejournal.com profile] astolat Sam/Dean Adult This fic is based on the concept of the Costner movie The Postman. It's Sam and Dean in a post-apocalyptic world and it's absolutely beautiful. I *believe* this fic; it feels very much like something that could happen.

Sinking like the Setting Sun by [livejournal.com profile] tigriswolf Dean-centric, variety of pairings including Wincest, Adult This is written in list format, which I love, and is an excellent character study. Little slices of the things that make Dean Dean.

Problem, Plan, Solution by [livejournal.com profile] albydarned J2 Adult This makes me laugh. Oh it makes me laugh. The Jared voice here is stellar--just shy of cracky and loads of fun. Then there's also the OMG!smokinghot Impala sex scene. *fans face*

Okay, damnit, i was on my third 'open link in new tab' when i realized i had to just bookmark this entire entry. I *loved* M*A*S*H as a kid, still watch it whenever it's on, and loved the book. Fic in that fandom is few and far between so - very cool.

Thank you!

You are such an amazing rec'er - i love that you do this!

I will, however, be reading everything and reccing what I like, so you can wait for that, too, iffen you want.

I'm so glad you get something out of my rec posts. I really enjoy making them. :)

I take it that there is some connection between Charles Emerson Winchester and the "real" Winchesters, cf. the Scott and Buffy Summers wings of the family? I downloaded a case for work today about somebody who was hired as a (college) Dean and I thought of you and gave it the filename "Deannotsam."

BTW I answered your e-mail when you got the package--did you get the e-mail?

Like a Hoover, baby

I did get your email. And I just have not yet replied like the lame ass I am. LOL Coming right up. :)

God, when was Korea? Major Winchester is John's older cousin, from the la-di-da half of the family. John's mom married a good ole boy from the wrong side of the tracks and got disinherited. But John still listens to Bach on the sly.

Thankee muchly, Vince.

*clicks*

Who do you think should be knocking boots on VM (first season anyways). Cause really I think Logan and Weevil should pretty much be sexing up the entire population of Neptune high indiscriminately. LOL

Sweetheart, I am gradually coming to the happy belief that eventually you'll end up pulled into all my fandoms. Which is to say, welcome to VM!

As for recs, my favorite VM writer is [livejournal.com profile] theohara. I recommend her Logan/Lilly/Veronica story Broken Toys, and her utterly brilliant (but unfinished) Logan/Veronica Virtual Season Two. I also like Katie M's gen story A little Bit More, Cordelianne's Logan/Weevil Afterglow, and Sadiekate's Logan/Weevil A Slow, Smooth Burn Going Down and her Logan/Weevil/Veronica Scattered Scars Like Constellations.

Heeeee. So what fandoms am I still woefully absent from? *grin*

Thanks so much for these recs. I've started going through [livejournal.com profile] crack_van and Broken Toys is actually the first VM fic recced there, and you're right. It's OMG amazing. I can't wait to check out the others.

Oh, dear. You know I read in, like, a hundred fandoms? But narrowing it down to the especially woefully absent ones (and the ones I suspect you might like), I'd say Rome, the Stargates, Doctor Who, Dead Zone, Keen Eddie, Babylon 5, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. But hey, do you already know some of those?

You're totally welcome for the recs!

I've never heard of Kiss, Kiss or Keen Eddie. And I watched Babylon 5 first run ages ago until it moved to UPN or whatever, but I really don't remember much about it. I've seen some SG-1 but not a single ep of Atlantis. So, hmm. We probably won't be intersecting anymore for a while. Unless you wanna help me search out Frasier/Niles Crane brotherslash. LOL It's wrong, but it could be fun.

Eh, well. The coming fall season may yet bring us even more points of commonality. And hey, have you started on VM season 2 yet?

As for Frasier/Niles, I'm afraid you're on your own. I know a couple of fics exist somewhere or other, because I often hang about rarefandom archives, but I couldn't say where I was when I saw them.

*scoffs*

You grossly underestimate me, youngling.

LOL

I'm four eps away from the finale. Although, gotta say, not having the mad love for this season that I did for the first. Oh, sure, I like it, but not as well as the first season.

You move fast! I know what you mean about the second season, though. I loved the first one harder. I fear the third season isn't as near to my heart as the first one either. And tonight's finale just...I stared at the screen for a bit, then yelled, "That's it?!"

I know! *That* was her last moment with Wallace? What the hell?

I actually thought the last bit with her and Logan was pretty perfect. I was satisfied with that. And I loved teh way her dad didn't call her on what she'd done. It just all felt anti-climactic.

Yeah, anti-climactic. It would have been a good episode if it wasn't the last one. I hear there's still a chance VM might return in the FBI reincarnation, though, so maybe it isn't exactly the last.
